Math 5036

Course Description

This is a course in the teaching of Calculus I - III intended for in-service teachers. The intended audience includes both teachers in the secondary schools and teachers at the community colleges

The thrust of the course will be in three different directions. First, there will be assignments on the content of the calculus. These will consist of Mathematica notebooks which students will complete. Second we will consider Mathematics concepts which serve as the foundation for the calculus. Finally we will consider pedagogical issues related to the teaching of calculus. One important note is the use of technology to support the calculus instruction. This will serve not only the instructional use but also as a model for the use of technology in calculus instruction

We will not use a textbook. Instead, each student will select an appropriate book covering the content and this set of books will serve as resources for class discussion. Back to MATH 5036
